The kandachime (literally, "horse that holds up in the cold") is a breed of medium-sized draft horse, native to Shiriyazaki, located in Aomori Prefecture, on the island of Honshū in Japan. The breed comes from Japanese war animals, crossed with various draft horses of European and American origin. These horses have returned to a semi-wild state, and are a tourist attraction in this region of northern Japan. They are nevertheless raised for their meat.

Amaya d'Or
♦ Kiso.
♦ Bay pangare.
♦ Filly.
♦"Amaya" means night rain.
The Kiso is a breed of small horses, generally bay, originating from the Kiso district, located in Nagano prefecture, Japan.
The Kiso is the only horse breed indigenous to the island of Honshū. This horse of approximately 1.32 m, descending from various crosses made during the Meiji era, was once used as a military mount, or put to good use for agricultural work. Motorization drastically reduced its numbers, already affected by the two World Wars.
Like all native Japanese breeds, the Kiso is in critical danger of extinction, continuing at very low numbers, with 149 animals recorded in 2008.

Ban'ei kyōsō is a form of Japanese horse racing in which draft horses pull heavy sleds up sand ramps, urged-on by jockeys balancing on the sleds. The horses used in the races are often either purebred or crosses of Percheron, Breton, and Belgian breeds.
Their weight can surpass one ton, twice the weight of a thoroughbred.
Potential stock is chosen from draft horses raised for meat. Most ban'ei horses start official racing as two-year-olds after passing inspection held between April and August. Regional races with finals for yearlings are held in October. Horses that do not pass inspection are either sent back to a breeder as they can be used in events or tourism, or to feedlot.
Competing horses are mainly solid-coloured, but there have also been pinto ban'ei horses and two dominant whites.
